Disney Should Give Up

Tuesday, November 8th, 2005

Looks like Chicken Little is getting poor reviews, and since this was Disney’s attempts to prove it could live without Pixar, it appears they might have failed despite even closing down its traditional animation shop to put all its resources in CGI based animation.

If I’m not mistaken, 2 years ago an Anime won an Oscar for best animation picture, and its not a CGI movie — so IMHO traditional animation is not dead, just Disney is, or at least they should be.

Everything else is made in China so why not me?

Friday, July 22nd, 2005

Juliana Hatfield puts up a rant on her website about the state of music these days, and I have to agree.

It’s impossible to sellout these days. “Selling out” is an antiquated concept. Everyone is licensing their songs to car commercials. That didn’t used to be okay. Bob Dylan is in a Victoria’s Secret ad. The most talented girl singers have turned themselves into strippers. A notch above porn stars. ‘Cause sex sells. The next step would be for them to actually have sex in their videos. Mariah Carey has implants. Christina Aguilera has implants. Gwen Stefani has implants. Even her. She finally gave in. And Beyoncé is on her hands and knees evoking doggy-style sex in one of her videos. And she has so much (singing) talent! Why, Beyoncé, why? Why, world, why? Why do you demand this of her?

She has a new album due out on August 9th called “Made In China

Cute Story About Apples And Love

Thursday, June 16th, 2005

Apples To Apples is indeed one of my favorite games right now. Its simple, fun, and is all about getting people together. But someone took the game a step further :)

Pr-Marriage Proposal-2“After a few rounds and a few turns of Ashleigh as the judge, I finally took the ‘Unforgettable’ card I had set aside and secretly placed it on a pile of green apple cards. Ashleigh (now the judge) flipped over the ‘Unforgettable’ card and I secretly submitted my ‘Ashleigh, Will You Marry Me?’ card face-down on the table. She then picked up everyones red cards from the table at which time my sister began recording on her digital camera. She read off the first card and then put it on the table. She read off the second card and then put in on the table. The third card was mine and when she saw it she had this shocked look on her face. At that point she wasn’t sure if I was serious or kidding. I then proceeded to get down on one knee and open the jewelry box with the ring, which removed any doubt that I was serious. I gave my speech and asked her to marry me, after which she shouted ‘Yes!’ and then attacked me with a huge hug :)”

A Canadian Takes Stage In Iron Chef America

Monday, February 21st, 2005

Last night chef Rob Feenie stepped into the kitchen stadium to face off against Masaharu Morimoto using the nights special ingredient of “crab”. When I heard what the special ingredient was I was sure that Morimoto would take it, but that proved to be untrue! Our fellow Canadian Rob Feenie took out Morimoto with what appeared to be great ease — which should help the sale of his new cook books and traffic into his restaurants for years to come :)

Update: Good full write up + interview over at the Vancouver Sun.

Update2: Shannon went to bed early when this aired on Sunday, I watched it again with her last night. I noticed that Rob was all business in the first 10-15 minutes of the show, then after Kevin said something about tension, he seemed to relax a lot and become his old self. It was probably that moment when Rob was really able to make those 5 dishes come through and give him the win.

Comic/Graphic Novel Review Podcast

Tuesday, February 8th, 2005

Dave Slusher in his latest podcast asked for a good comics review podcast, now I don’t think I am either A) versed enough in comics to say anything overly important. B) I don’t think I want to do a podcast myself, at least not at this point.

So if anyone out there wants to start one up, I’ll be more than happy to assist them in getting it up and running.

But also I should say; Dave… I have been reading Y: The Last Man from Vertigo Comics and I love it, so if your in the store and want a graphic novel that is interesting and well drawn, you might want to check out that title.

When MTV Played Music Videos

Tuesday, September 21st, 2004

I’m still surprised at the number of people that think MTV plays music videos. I’ve watched MTV (here in Canada via DirectTV) since about 1995 and even then I couldn’t remember MTV showing videos… it wasn’t until M2 came along that I saw an MTV owned station actually play one. Sure TRL (Total Request Live) plays videos, but they don’t show them unedited and all the way through.

Now I’m not saying MTV is a terrible station, far from… they introduced me to Daria, Road Rules and don’t forget the MTV Movie Awards which have great categories like ‘Best Action Sequence’ and ‘Best Kiss’ categories we the people can relate to, because thats what they talk about when they watch movies.

Ok, now I’m widely off topic so let me try to reel in my thoughts; in Canada we had [have] MuchMusic that was born right here in Toronto. They play videos, but we Canadians only really wanted MTV which didn’t. Go figure.

So why do musicians make videos if the major station - MTV - doesn’t play them?
